We’re proud of all of our volunteers but special recognition has been given to the Active Living Phoenix group in Watchet, West Somerset, who were awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) this Spring after being nominated by Jemma Lawson – their Volunteer Engagement Adviser.

Winners of the QUAVS get a certificate signed by the Queen, a domed glass crystal, and were also invited to attend a royal garden party in Buckingham Palace.

The QAVS is the highest award given to volunteer groups that have been running for longer than 3 years across the UK, and in order to be nominated the service must :

  • provide a service and meet a need for people living in the local community
  • be supported, recognised and respected by the local community and the people who benefit from it
  • be run locally
The Phoenix Community Centre have made an outstanding contribution to their local community and the QAVS allows them to now use the Royal Crest.
